Packing...

We are in packing mode now since we leave for Wisconsin this week, for a month. We can't wait! But Declan is the most excited by far... Between that and only having 3 more days of summer camp, he's thrilled! He likes summer camp, but hates the nap that they are forced to take :-) He's also thrilled about eating hot dogs almost every day since we are trying to clean out our fridge :-)

Last night Andy took Declan to one of his first baseball games - I think he's been to one before, but we couldn't remember. He took him to Lakewood to watch a minor team and they had a great time! Here are a few pictures from the day/night...

And here's what we did... A little game of hide and seek (sort of)...

Beating the heat...

Like most of the country it's been ridiculously hot for the past few weeks... Everyone is getting a little restless and sick of being indoors. So Andy took Declan to a Legoland Discovery Center today (just north of NYC) and the girls and I had a girls day. At first, I was a little concerned if I was going to make it through the day because they started the day off very crabby... But it's nothing a solid 3 hour nap can't resolve! And my friend Joy gave me the idea of getting the baby pool out to entertain them once they woke up. It was a perfect idea because it was hot, but cloudy - so I got everything prepped before they woke up and then I got them all in their suits and lubed with sunscreen and they had a blast in the pool! The time commitment to just get them out the door is challenging, but it was definitely worth it! Here are a few pictures from the day... Unfortunately we had to cut the fun shorter than I had hoped because I severely pissed up a bunch of bees when I moved the chair that they had a nest in... I'm shocked no one got stung!

Meanwhile, Declan had a blast at the discovery center...

After swimming and the almost attack by the bees, I decided not to put clothes on the girls. I mean, bedtime was right around the corner (about 5 hours away) and I had already broken a sweat with getting them in suits and sunscreen on every inch of their bodies... I forgot that Bria liked to take off her diaper. Here are a few pictures of her craziness...

And probably one of my all time favorite pictures I've ever taken... This will be a historic blackmail picture for the rest of her life..

In the morning, this was my attempt to get a good kids picture... Stevie was extra crabby this morning and you can tell Declan wasn't a big fan of the photo op... L to R: Stevie, Bria and Aven...

I'm thinking of throwing in the towel and just doing family photos like this... The girls are into smiling when you say "CHEEEEEEEEESSSSSSEEEE" really obnoxiously - of course they won't when they are sitting by each other, but they'll do it one on one for you :-) (Clockwise: Declan, Bria, Stevie, Aven -- I think they all have the same eyes, the Lawry eyes and the girls all have the same smile...)

Art Show

Unfortunately Andy's grandma Lawry passed away this past Thursday - she was such a sweet woman. So Andy headed back with his Mom and cousin this morning to be at the services and will be back in a couple of days.

Emily and I decided to make the trip down to Philly with all the kids for the day. Our Aunt is an amazing artist and was having a show displaying her work. I definitely was a little skeptical of doing this because #1 taking 4 kids 5 and under to an art show smells of disaster and #2 it was during nap time. But all and all, it actually went really well. Hopefully we didn't scare away too many customers for my Aunt :-) Here are some pictures from the day...

20 Months!

This past week the girls turned 20 months. Fast approaching 2 years old!!! It's still so hard to believe. I traveled most of the week for work, so I relied on Jessie to get their 20 month picture - and a great one she got!

L to R: Aven, Stevie and Bria

Here's what new they are up to... I figured it's just easier to talk about what they are doing new than to repeat everything else that I've already said...

Aven: Aven isn't really saying many words and she's pretty much given up her signing. She seems to get her way without having to do much. She's really into shutting doors and has started tantrum throwing. She's still our crazy outgoing girl with the cutest expressions... She's definitely going to be a heart-breaker.

Bria: Bria seems to be saying more and more words... She's saying momma, bye bye and uh oh, but momma is a long drawn out mooooooommmmmmmaaaaaa :-)

Stevie: Stevie is still not walking 100%. She definitely can and does it quite well, but she still prefers to walk. She's not really saying any words either, but does do the triplet talk with her sisters and seems to know what she wants and get what she wants.

All of Them: Exciting news is that they have started to use forks! I know, seems minor, but I honestly wasn't planning on introducing those until High School, so it's a huge win! They seem to actually eat more with the fork. We are also down to one bottle a day - the night bottle. Not sure when we'll take that one away, but the girls seem to be adjusting well. All the girls really like books too :-) It's not easy reading books to three little girls at the same time...

Happy Birthday Declan (again)...

I just realized that I posted this on my old blog... this is a few weekends old :-)...

We celebrated Declan's birthday this weekend at the JumpZone with all his friends. Declan had a blast and loved hanging with his friends, jumping around, going down slides and beating each other up (oh and eating pizza and cake). Jessie and Grandma Mary were also came to town which was great to have an extra set up hands watching all the girls. Although, each of them reacted differently at first, all of them were chasing balls and having a blast by the end of the day. Here are a few pictures from the day...

Long are the days where the girls were small enough to all sit on Declan's lap :-) (L to R: Aven, Bria & Stevie)

Now we can see everyone :-) (L to R: Aven, Bria & Stevie)

Star Wars Theme!

Declan giving his friend Jack a hug and kiss - HA HA HA HA! Jacks dad looked the other way :-)

Unrelated, but still a picture I wanted to post... This look just scream Aven! For those that don't know her well, once you do, you'll know why...

Declan is 5!!!!!!!!!!

All of a sudden last night, as Declan was sitting on my lap while he wiped off all of my kisses, it hit me... I can't believe that he is already 5. I mean, seriously... Where has this time gone? It's like I remember being pregnant with him and then I remember today when he turned 5 - everything in between is a bit of a blur...

Declan is an amazing little boy... And I say that in complete honestly. Sure, he's stubborn, challenging, mouthy and a little bit crazy. But he's also really special. Special in that he's smart, extremely creative, clever, kind, full of love and passion and possesses more energy than the entire Green Bay Packers.  I have a constant tinge of guilt regarding Declan because he's always going to be known as the brother to triplets or the triplets brother. It's a constant struggle to make sure he feels like an individual who is important versus making him overly spoiled because he has to deal with having 3 little sisters that look alike.  I only hope that he will grow up to be a respectful young man, which I'm sure he will given he has 4 strong females in his life that will make sure he does.
Here are a few of my favorite things that Declan has done recently (given my limited memory, these were in the last few months). Just a few more reasons to love him :)
  • A few months ago, Emily and Jeff took Declan for the day/night. They were in downtown New Brunswick walking around and they walked by a store that some refer to as a "hippie store." In the window were a bunch of bongs. You know, the ones people smoke marijuana out of... He said "look at all those trophies!" and was super excited. Hilarious.
  • One day on the way home from school, he was mouthing off. So I told him that when we got home that I was going to have to wash his mouth out with soap (one of the many times I discovered that I actually was a real mom). About 5 minutes later he says, "mom, after you wash my mouth, can I play with my Lego's?" He took me literally like I was going to clean his mouth because it was dirty.
  • The other night while Andy was at the gym, out of the blue, Declan picked up the phone and said "HELLO? hello - daddy, are you alright over there?" And says to me that he was "just checking on Daddy because he was worried about him."
Here are a few pictures from the day today. Declan's birthday party with his friends is on Saturday, but today we had a little family celebration and went to a parade and 4th event in our borough. It was very hot, but fun!

Birthday boy (with donut frosting all over his face) :-)

The parade! There wasn't actually a parade per se - we were the parade! It was fun, they shut down a few blocks and you just walked with kids on bikes, wagons, etc...
